Velasierra has carried out extensive research on Andean flutes.
With the intention of reimagening and reinventing Andean wind instruments, Mauricio finished a degree in instrument design at the London Guildhall University.
He set out to build more versatile traditional instruments that would allow him to explore almost unlimited musical styles and sounds.
In 2012 he joined forces with fellow Luthier Brendan McAully to bring about the latest design in tunable chromatic kenas 'LA NEGRAZARCA II'
Mauricio continues to develop and design new instruments and has joined James Lindle and the WOMAD festival to create a series of experimental concert instruments, amongst other projects.
